Russian Language in Kiev
How strange does this sound? "Come to Kiev Polytechnic Institute to improve your Russian in intensive language training and get paid!"" When I first heard about this programme I thought they were just kidding. But the specifications in the IAESTE brochure did not lie. Russian Course in Kiev was the best idea for vacation. Thanks to IAESTE Ukraine I had the possibility to stay 2 months in Kiev to attend an intensive Russian course. The lessons (5 times per week/1.5 hours) mainly took place in the evenings which was due the fact that the IAESTE language trainers work in their first job during the day. The Russian level, which the course adjusts to, depends on the "weakest" student. So you cannot be sure to continue your studies on the language level, you already have! All students – usually about 5 students - regardless of their language skills will attend the same course. /
In my case, the course was adjusted to my skills, because I had started to learn Russian only one year in advance to my stay in Kiev, so actually I was the "weakest" student on Russian Course in Kiev Because of this the course was really intensive and challenging for me: In order to meet the demands of my fellow students, as well, I really had to work hard to keep pace. Fellow students, which already were able to talk in Russian, might have been a bit bored from time to time. In retrospect, I would rather recommend the course to someone, who has already got, at least, an intermediate level in Russian and wishes to "reactivate" the fading Russian skills. I, however, really enjoyed the stay at the KPI and felt perfectly coached and attended to. I still cannot speak Russian, but the IAESTE language Russian Course in Kiev contributed a big deal to my level, I now have, and I will surely continue to study Russian.
